# IGNEUM trade mark clearance search

Overall: the word IGNEUM itself is unregistered in the EU, UK, US and WIPO. The problem is IGNIUM, one vowel away, registered in the EU and UK for token issuance and cryptocurrency transaction software, owned by a wound-down Estonian platform now inside Coinmetro. Clearance is possible but needs a plan for that mark before the EU and UK filings go public.

Token lists: CoinGecko search returned zero results for igneum, ignium, igneo and igneous. CoinMarketCap's search API was unreachable (404 page); web search shows no CoinMarketCap listing for any of the three. Etherscan's search handler returned empty for igneum, ignium and igneo (the handler may also be rate limited, so treat as "nothing found" not "nothing exists"). No token, memecoin or project called Igneum was found on any list, on GitHub, or in news.

## 6. Three closest marks

## 7. Recommended filing strategy
Applicant: the ADGM DLT Foundation. Under the ADGM DLT Foundations Regulations 2023 a registered DLT Foundation has separate legal personality and holds its own assets, so it can own trade marks. It is domiciled in the UAE, which makes the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism a valid office of origin for a Madrid application (the Madrid Protocol needs the applicant to be a national of, domiciled in, or have a real and effective establishment in the office-of-origin country). If the Foundation is not yet registered when you want to file, file in the founder entity's name and assign to the Foundation later; the assignment at EUIPO, UK IPO and USPTO is cheap, the Madrid IR records one change of holder.
Mark to file: IGNEUM, plain word, Latin characters, no logo. Do not file IGNEUM NETWORK; NETWORK is descriptive and adds nothing. Keep the UAE basic mark identical to what goes in the Madrid application. The UAE office accepts a Latin word mark on its own; file the Arabic transliteration (إغنيوم) as a second UAE application only if the UAE agent advises it, and keep it out of the Madrid basic mark.
### Step 1: UAE national application (basic mark)
- Office: UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Trademark Office, online via moet.gov.ae with UAE PASS. A registered UAE trade mark agent files for the Foundation; the power of attorney is notarised in the UAE (no legalisation chain needed for an ADGM entity).
- Classes 9, 36, 42, one application, three classes.
- Official fees since 14 Nov 2025 (Cabinet Resolution 102 of 2025): AED 750 filing plus AED 750 publication plus AED 5,000 registration, AED 6,500 per class, AED 19,500 for three classes. Optional one-day examination AED 2,250. Agent fees extra. Expect six to nine months to registration; the Madrid application does not wait for that.
- The UAE office has been accepting cryptocurrency wording in class 36 (virtual currency services, crypto exchange, issuing virtual tokens of value), so the specification below should pass.
- Watch the central-attack risk: the Madrid IR depends on this UAE application for five years. If the UAE application is refused or cut down, the IR follows it (you can transform into national filings within three months, at national cost). Keep the UAE specification conservative so it survives.
### Step 2: Madrid application via the UAE office of origin, within six months of the UAE filing to claim Paris priority
- Designate: European Union (EM), United Kingdom (GB), United States (US). Add Switzerland (CH), Singapore (SG), Japan (JP) and Korea (KR) at the same time if budget allows; they are cheap to add now and expensive to add later.
- Fees, approximate, for three classes, black and white mark: WIPO basic fee CHF 653; EU individual fee CHF 897 for the first class plus roughly CHF 50 for the second and CHF 150 for each further class (mirrors the EUR 850 / 50 / 150 EUIPO scale); UK individual fee CHF 240 for the first class from 1 April 2026 plus roughly CHF 70 per extra class; US individual fee USD 600 per class since February 2025, roughly CHF 480 to 500 per class, so about CHF 1,450 for three. Budget about CHF 4,500 for EM, GB, US, plus the UAE office's handling fee (amount not confirmed, approximate) and agent time. Mark all of these as approximate and run WIPO's fee calculator before paying.
- US specifics: the US designation needs form MM18 (declaration of bona fide intention to use); the USPTO examines the identification of goods strictly, so the class wording below is already in USPTO-acceptable language; a Section 71 use declaration is due between years five and six after the US registration; the USPTO will cite IGNIUM 99299693 and 99299709 only if it sees the goods as related, so keep class 9 and 42 wording narrowly blockchain and crypto, nothing about simulators, training or engineering design.
- EU specifics: EUIPO does not examine relative grounds; conflicts surface only if Coinmetro, First Sentier or a national owner (igneon DE, igneo ES) opposes within three months of publication. Decide on the IGNIUM question (Step 3) before the EU designation publishes.
- UK specifics: the UK IPO notifies earlier owners of similar marks (an examiner search report goes to Ignium OÜ's address for service and to First Sentier). Expect a notification letter, not a refusal.
### Step 3: deal with IGNIUM before the EU and UK publish
The EUTM 018212492 was registered on 5 Aug 2020. Its five-year grace period for genuine use ended on 5 Aug 2025. Ignium's platform appears dormant since the Coinmetro acquisition (token with one holder, Ignium OÜ deadpooled). If there has been no genuine use in the EU of IGNIUM for the registered services in the last five years, the mark can be revoked for non-use at EUIPO (application for revocation, official fee EUR 630) and the UK clone likewise at the UK IPO (form TM26(N), fee about GBP 200). Options, in order of preference:
1. Commission a use investigation on IGNIUM in the EU and UK (a few hundred pounds). If no use is found, file revocation actions at EUIPO and UK IPO at the same time as the Madrid filing. A revoked mark cannot be used to oppose.
2. In parallel, approach Coinmetro for an assignment of both IGNIUM registrations or a written coexistence and no-oppose undertaking. A dormant mark from a wound-down subsidiary is usually cheap. Do this through counsel, without disclosing the launch plan, and only after the UAE application is on file so the priority date is secured.
3. If Coinmetro proves use and will not deal, expect an opposition in the EU and a notification in the UK. The defence is that IGNIUM is used for security-token issuance to SMEs while IGNEUM is a proof-of-work base layer, but with one letter of difference and overlapping class 36 and 42 wording the likelihood-of-confusion argument favours them. Have a fallback name ready before public launch in the EU.
### Step 4: direct EUTM in parallel (recommended)
File a direct EUTM for IGNEUM in 9, 36 and 42 at the same time as the UAE application (EUR 850 plus 50 plus 150, EUR 1,050 for three classes, no agent needed to file, an EEA representative is needed only if the office raises objections). Reasons: the EU is where the IGNIUM conflict sits, a direct filing gets an earlier filing date than the Madrid designation, and it is immune to central attack on the UAE basic mark. If both the direct EUTM and the Madrid EU designation go through, drop one later. Claim the UAE priority on the direct EUTM if it is filed within six months of the UAE date.
### Step 5: Australia and the rest later
Do not designate Australia now. Igneum Pty Ltd's class 42 registration covers SaaS and software development and IP Australia examines relative grounds, so a class 42 designation would be objected to. Revisit with a consent letter from Igneum Pty Ltd (an engineering consultancy that has no crypto interest) once the protocol is live.
### Draft class specifications
Wording follows terms already accepted at EUIPO, UK IPO and USPTO for blockchain marks (TMclass and the USPTO ID Manual). Keep it; do not add "financial services" or "software" on their own, those broad terms are what draws citations.

Software as a service (SaaS) featuring software for blockchain technology; platform as a service (PaaS) featuring computer software platforms for cryptocurrency transactions; blockchain as a service (BaaS); providing online non-downloadable software for mining cryptocurrency; computer services, namely, providing a decentralised proof-of-work blockchain network for recording and verifying transactions; generation and verification of cryptographic proofs for others; design and development of computer software and hardware for blockchain and zero-knowledge proof systems; data authentication via blockchain; computer security services, namely, securing and validating transactions on a blockchain; providing virtual computer systems and GPU computing environments through cloud computing; technical consultancy relating to blockchain technology; hosting of blockchain nodes for others.
UAE note: file the same three lists; the UAE office accepts class headings less readily than specific terms, and the Madrid basic mark must cover every term later claimed in the IR.
## 8. What still needs a human or a paid tool
- UK IPO live status of UK00918212492 (IGNIUM) and UK00002323910 (IGNEOUS, 2003): both behind the captcha.
- USPTO TSDR confirmation of the IGNEOUS cancellation (87207703) and the status of IGNEOUS SYSTEMS (86278990) and IGNEOUS GEAR (88450535).
- UAE register: nothing was searched. A UAE agent should run the AED 350 official inquiry in classes 9, 36 and 42 for IGNEUM, IGNIUM and the Arabic forms.
